Internal proof of concept

Forming shoulders. Ready for a digital future.

Long lead times. High manufacturing costs. Too much dependence on specialist manual work. We asked: could a digital approach change how forming shoulders are made?

From digital design to a working part.

Why we tackled it

A critical part. Too many constraints.

Traditional forming shoulders can be expensive, slow to produce and difficult to reproduce consistently. We set out to put the design and manufacturing process under digital control.

Why a different approach matters.

Long lead times

A replacement shoulder should not hold up a format change.

High manufacturing cost

Complex geometry and manual finishing add time and expense.

Scarce specialist skills

Production depends heavily on experienced craftspeople.

Difficult repeatability

Consistent geometry is harder to control when the process relies on manual work.

No reusable digital design

Without a controlled digital model, the next replacement can mean starting again.

Food safety

Printed with FDA- and EU-approved materials for food-contact applications.

The proof of concept

We proved it could be done.

From digital design to a working forming shoulder in production. Our internal POC demonstrated a new manufacturing route, opening the door to shorter lead times, lower production costs and more repeatable replacements.

An internal development project. Suitability and potential benefits are assessed for each application.
