Customer-initiated project

A secure grip. A simpler part.

Secure bottle handling with fewer parts to produce, clean and maintain. An original Sidel customer project by Additive Center, expanded by AddPack into a configurable, one-piece bottle-neck gripper.

Why we tackled it

One component. Fewer complications.

Every spring, joint and separate finger adds something to make, assemble, clean and maintain. Building on the original Sidel project by Additive Center, AddPack developed the concept further for manufacturing, durability and repeatable customisation.

Less complexity. More possibilities.

Fewer parts. Less complexity.

One monolithic part replaces the 15-part assembly assessed by AddPack, simplifying procurement, assembly and spare-part logistics.

Built for repeated motion.

Passive gripping secures the bottle during filling. AddPack reports a rating above 10 million cycles for the assessed design and treatment.

Easier to clean.

Smooth surfaces reduce crevices and allow spray and wipe cleaning without dismantling. Electropolishing or an optional coating can further improve the finish.

Adapt to the next bottle.

A parametric configurator speeds up geometry changes for different bottles while retaining a controlled digital specification.

A choice of production routes.

Selective laser melting and binder jetting have both been tested in the development programme, creating options for scaling production.

Plan for less servicing.

The assessment targets zero annual servicing over a five-year, non-serviceable life. These are objectives, dependent on duty, environment and final specification.

From Sidel project to AddPack development

Keep the function. Rethink the assembly.

The original project established the one-piece approach. AddPack’s subsequent work extends the assessment to manufacturing routes, surface finishing, fatigue performance and a configurable gripper.
